Assam G20 meeting

The meeting first Sustainable Finance Working Group of G20 was recently held in Guwahati, Assam. A hundred delegates from 95 different foreign countries attended the meeting. The G20 meeting was inaugurated by Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. A traditional musical performance was presented by the Assamese at the Guwahati airport to welcome the foreign delegates.

About the meeting

  • Four sessions were held
  • Delegates were taken on the Brahmaputra cruise
  • The Y20 meeting will also be held in Assam. Five different Y20 meets are to be conducted for the Youths. The first one is being held in Assam. The themes of the Y20 meetings are health, sports, disaster risk reduction, climate change, the future of the work industry, peacebuilding, and reconciliation.

Arrangements made by the Assam Government

In the process of beautifying Guwahati city, the State Government created thematic gates, digital wall paintings, flags of G20 countries, hoarding, LED cutouts, etc. The delegates were also taken for a visit to the Sandbar of Brahmaputra, Kaziranga National Park, Gorbhanga Reserve Forest, and Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary.

Why Assam?

The Government of India chose Assam to establish the message that communities from different cultures can lead sustainable life. The land of Assam is diverse in ethnicity. Still the Assamese coexist in harmony with mother earth. This has become possible only because of sustainable practices adopted by the state.
