Stree Manoraksha Project

The ‘Stree Manoraksha Project’ has been launched by the Ministry of Women and Child Development (MoWCD)in collaboration with NIMHANS Bengaluru. This was launched with the aim to improve women’s mental health across India.

Overview:

This project will focus on capacity building of OSC (One-Stop Center) functionaries the techniques and tools of how to handle cases of women approaching the OSC, especially those who have experienced violence and distress, with care and sensitivity.
During the COVID period, the One Stop Centres did an excellent job.
At present there are 700 OSCs operating in the country.
People who are working in these OSCs will also be trained to properly operate the Self Defense Shaheed Women Helpline.
Women can get help with medical, legal, and criminal issues at the one-stop centre. The training program will also be provided in all regional languages so that it becomes easy to understand.

About the project

The project, outlined by NIMHANS, will be imparted in two formats based on the Ministry of Women and Child Development’s projected requirements. Under one format all OSC functionaries, including security guards, cooks, helpers, caseworkers, counsellors, centre administrators, paramedical staff, etc, will receive basic training.

Under the second format, emphasis will be given on the advanced course focusing on various components such as multi-generational implications and lifetime trauma in cases of violence against women; guiding principles and challenges in managing trauma in cases of sexual violence; assessment of mental distress, disorders, and suicidal tendency; and ethical and professional principles in counselling.

About One Stop Centres

One Stop Centre is a scheme under the Ministry of Women and Child Development. These centres will assist women who have been victims of violence in the home, community, and workplace. Women who are facing sexual, physical, psychological, emotional, and economic abuse will be facilitated with redressal and support, regardless of their age, class, caste, education position, marital status, race, or culture.

Women who have been facing any kind of violence related to sexual assault, attempted sexual harassment, trafficking, domestic violence, acid attacks, honour-related crimes, or witch-hunting and have reached out to the OSCs will be provided with specialized services.
