Thousands of bystanders caught in Toronto

Toronto police officials deployed the controversial stingray surveillance technology over 2 months. They have swept up data from more than 20, 000 bystanders. The police have claimed to use the technology to investigate a 2014 investigation. The investigation was to enquire 11 suspects. The technology mimics a celuular tower and  forces all the nearby phones to connect to it. After establishing the connection, it can draw any data from the phone. It is widely used in USA, UK and Canada.
