INS Tarkash arrives at Reunion Islands, France

As part of Indian Navy’s Overseas Deployment to Africa, Europe and Russia, the Indian Naval Ship (INS) Tarkash arrived at St Denis, Reunion Island, France on 3 October 2019 for a three day visit. Indian Navy ships are regularly deployed overseas as part of Indian Navy’s mission of building ‘bridges of friendship’ as well as strengthening international cooperation with friendly countries.

Key Highlights

During port call, the Commanding Officer will pay courtesy calls on various dignitaries and government officials at Reunion Island (in France). To further enhance co-operation professional interactions will be held between French and Indian Navies. In addition to this social engagement, sports events and best practices will also be shared between Indian and French Navies.

India-France

Since ages India and France have traditionally enjoyed warm and friendly bilateral relations. Both countries share common values of democracy, development and secularism which was in 1998 upgraded to level of a ‘Strategic Partnership’.

India and France have been engaged in regular high level exchanges and interactions in numerous fields and the Navies of both nations have recently engaged in one of the most complex and major Maritime Exercise ‘VARUNA 2019’ in Indian Ocean. This involved the participation of Carrier Task Groups from both sides and conduct of full-spectrum Naval operations.

About INS Tarkash

It is a potent frontline frigate and second Talwar-class frigate constructed for the Indian Navy. It is part of 2nd batch of Teg-class frigates ordered by Indian Navy and was built at Yantar shipyard in Kaliningrad, Russia.

It was commissioned on 9 November 2012 and is equipped with a versatile range of weapons and sensors.

The ship is part of Indian Navy’s Western Fleet. It is under Operational Command of Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Naval Command, based at Mumbai, Maharshtra.
