1 MW Rooftop Solar Power Project

NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Limited (NVVN), a subsidiary of NTPC has commissioned the first rooftop solar project at IIT Jodhpur. This project showcases the growing commitment to renewable energy and sustainability.  

A Sustainable Power Solution 

Under the leadership of NVVN, the rooftop solar project at IIT Jodhpur represents a major step towards a greener future. With a capacity of 1 MW, this grid-connected solar project is set to make a positive impact on energy generation and reduce carbon emissions. 

Implementing the RESCO Model 

The project has been implemented under the Renewable Energy Service Company (RESCO) model. In this model, the RESCO takes responsibility for designing, building, funding, and operating the entire solar power plant, be it rooftop or ground-mounted. This approach ensures a seamless execution and offers long-term benefits. 

Long-Term Power Purchase Agreement 

To ensure sustained power generation and stability, the Power Purchase Agreement for this rooftop solar project spans an impressive duration of 25 years. This commitment reflects the strong vision for a future powered by renewable energy sources. 

Involvement of Multiple Buildings 

The rooftop solar project covers a significant expanse, spreading across the roofs of 14 buildings within the IIT Jodhpur campus. This widespread coverage maximizes the potential for solar energy generation and sets a shining example for other institutions. 

Meeting Energy Needs and Reducing Carbon Emissions 

By generating approximately 14.9 lakhs units of electricity per annum, the rooftop solar project will meet 15% of IIT Jodhpur’s electricity requirement. This substantial contribution not only aids in meeting energy needs sustainably but also significantly reduces carbon emissions by an estimated 1,060 tonnes per year.
