SLINEX 2022 Exercise

From March 7 to 10, the ninth edition of the Indian and Sri Lankan Navy bilateral maritime exercise SLINEX (Sri Lanka–India Naval Exercise) will be held at Visakhapatnam.

Overview:

In two phases this exercise will be conducted with the Harbour Phase taking place at Visakhapatnam on March 7 and 8, and the Sea Phase taking place in the Bay of Bengal on March 9 and 10.
In October 2020, the previous edition of SLINEX was conducted in Trincomalee.

Participants in this exercise

The SLNS Sayurala, an advanced offshore patrol vessel, will represent the Sri Lankan Navy, while the Indian Navy will be represented by the INS Kirch, a guided missile corvette. Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH), Seaking, INS Jyoti, a Fleet support tanker, Dornier Maritime Patrol Aircraft, and Chetak Helicopters are among the Indian Navy’s other participants.

What exercises will be conducted under both phases?

Cultural, professional, social, and sporting exchanges will take place under the Harbour Phase. Surface and anti-air weapon fire exercises, aviation operations involving cross-deck flying, seamanship evolutions, special forces operations at sea, and complex tactical manoeuvre will take place during the Sea Phase. These exercises will further enhance the inter-operability which already exists between the navies of both the countries.

Aim of this exercise

The aim of SLINEX is to increase mutual understanding, interoperability, and the exchange of best procedures and practices for multi-faceted maritime operations between the two navies.

SLINEX also exemplifies Sri Lanka and India’s deep maritime engagement and has grown in scope over time to improve bilateral cooperation, in line with India’s ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Security and Growth for All in the Region (SAGAR)’.
