Resignation of Justice Soumitra Sen accepted by the President Ms Pratibha Patil

  • The President Ms Pratibha Devisingh Patil signed notification on resignation of Calcutta High Court Judge, Justice Soumitra Sen

  • Mrs. Pratibhadevi Singh Patil put her signature on the notification issued by Ministry of Law and Justice
  • Hand written resignation letter of Justice Sen was handed over to the President’s Secretariat by his advocate
  • Impeachment motion against Justice Somitra Sen was scheduled to be taken up by the Lok Sabha
  • However, according to sources, in view of the acceptance of the resiganation Lok Sabha Speaker Mrs. Meira Kumar is likely to consult political parties before any decision on impeachment process in the House is taken up.

 

Bolivia celebrates ‘Pedestrian day’

  • Objective: To raise awareness about the environment

CBI arrests Reddy brothers in relation to the Illegal Mining

  • CBI arrested former Karnataka Tourism Minister and Mining Mr. Czar G. Janardhana Reddy and BJP MLA D. V. Srinivasan Reddy
  • Raids being carried out in connection with the probe that CBI launched into the illegal mining in Andhra Pradesh
  • Raids come after Supreme Court vacated in December 2010 a stay on CBI probe into the illegal mining in the state

North East’s First Integrated Tea Park to be set up in Chaygaon, Assam

  • Procedure to establish the first integrated tea park of the North East region have begun
  • The proposed park would come up at Chaygaon on the outskirts of Guwahati
  • It would offer infrastructure of International standards and the state of the art facilities
  • It would also build world class facilities for processing, warehousing, auction centre, blending and packaging, and generate employment
  • India’s 55% total tea production is contributed by North East
  • Following completion of the park, the tea export is likely to be amplified to a large degree

Economist Professor D.U. Sastry passes away

  • Professor D.U. Sastry: Renowned industrial economist
  • Professor Mr. Sastry (81) passed away
  • He was a resident of Andhra Pradesh
  • He was a research fellow at the University of Pennsylvania and was associated with Nobel laureate L.R. Klein
  • Professor Sastry made lots of contributions to Industrial Economics, begining with his work on demand for energy in north-western India, in association with P.N. Dhar
  • Other studies related to sugar industry location, inventories in manufacturing, investment and financing in the corporate sector, import substitution, and the cotton textile industry. He was closely associated with the development perspectives of Karnataka studies under the overall guidance of Professor Rao, founder of the Institute of Social and Economic Change here
  • Professor Sastry, a fine scholar, was widely read and organized and punctilious in his research

    this site is doing a great job by providing all the imp.topics for various competitions.
    however,it would be great if the current affairs be updated on a daily basis.It’s already oct.3 but current affiars for the month of sep. is still pending and not updated.
