Rome Declaration

The Rome Declaration was adopted at the G-20 Summit. The declaration addressed most of the global challenges. It includes COVID-19 crisis and inclusive growth. Here are complete details on Rome Declaration.

Global economy

The members agreed to address the consequences of COVID-19. They are to focus on the youth, women and the low-skilled labours.

Health

  • It was agreed to improve efforts on vaccines against COVID-19. The members will work towards providing timely, affordable, effective, quality vaccines. The World Health Organization has recommended to achieve at least 40% of population in all countries should be vaccinated by 2021. The G-20 members will work towards this.
  • They committed to adopt the One Health Approach.
  • A Joint Finance-Health Task Force was created. It will work to increase the global cooperation, share best practices.

Debt Service Suspension Initiative

Around 12.7 billion USD of total debt has been deferred under the Debt Service Suspension Initiative. This was achieved between May 2020 and October 2021. This benefitted more than 50 countries.

African Development Fund-16

The fund is to be replenished.

Sustainable Development

The leaders agreed to strengthen their actions to implement the G20 Action Plan. The G20 Action plan aims to fulfil the 2030 agenda set by the individual countries through mutual cooperation.

Environment

The leaders reaffirmed the ambition of achieving 50% reduction of degraded land by 2040.

  • To address sustainable long term pandemic preparedness, detection, prevention and surge capacity
