Philippines warns China to back off the disputed island

Philippines President Duterte has warned China to back off the disputed island in South China sea. The Chinese presence in the South China Sea is increasing and has been warned by adjacent countries. It has also received criticism all over the world.

China, Philippines, Brunei, Taiwan, Malaysia and Vietnam have been claiming various islands and reefs as they are rich in petroleum reserves.

In 2016, Philippines received a major victory in the international maritime tribunal. Therefore the president warns the Chinese that they have no legal basis over the island.

The President of Philippines warned that it will have to take military actions if China does not back off. In March US said that it would come to Manila’s aid over the South China Sea issue against China.

Lately the President was criticised for his silence over the Chinese investment promises and Philippines getting a little out of it.
