Plastic Waste Management Rules, 2016

Plastic Waste Management Rules, 2016 was notified by the Ministry of Environment and Forest & Climate Change (MoEF&CC) for managing the plastic wastes in the country. It seeks to ban single use plastic, make plastic generators responsible for collecting and recycling the wastes, promote reuse of plastic wastes in road construction, energy production etc.

The Karnataka Government has set up a 16-member taskforce recently to chalk out a comprehensive action plan for the implementation of these rules. Its ultimate objective is to eliminate single-use plastics completely. It will be headed by the Additional Chief Secretary to the government.
