Over 7000 years old city unearthed in Egypt

In Egypt, archaeologists have unearthed a city which is more than 7,000 years old dating back to its first dynasty in the province of Sohag. Archaeologists have uncovered pottery remains, iron tools and 15 huge graves. The site is located just 400 metres from the Seti I, a New Kingdom period memorial across the river Nile. Based on the findings, it is expected that the city would have housed high-ranking officials and grave builders. The discovery of the city is expected to shed new insights into Abydos which is one of the oldest cities of ancient Egypt. The finding could also be a boon to the Egypt’s ailing tourism industry which has seen setbacks since the uprising which uprooted Hosni Mubarak’s regime in 2011.
