India’s first regional rapid transit system trainset

The first trainset of India’s first Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) was recently handed over to National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC).

  • It is an 82.15 km long semi-high speed rail corridor connecting Delhi, Ghaziabad, and Meerut. The corridor is under construction.
  • It is one of the three rapid rail corridors planned under Phase I of the Regional Rapid Transport System (RRTS) project of the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC).

  • National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) is a joint venture company of the Government of India and the States of Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh (UP).

Which signaling system is used in Delhi-Meerut RRTS?

The Delhi-Meerut RRTS will be the first in India to adopt the European Train Control System (ETCS) hybrid Level 2 signaling system. This is the core signaling and train control component of the European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS).

What will be the speed of the trains?

The RRTS corridors will operate the fastest trains in India with a design speed of 180 kmph.
