The logo of the bamboo mission portrays a bamboo culm at the centre of a circle which is composed of half an industrial wheel and half farmers. Thus, it depicts the objectives of NBM clearly. The logo has been designed in green and yellow colour which symbolise that bamboo is also termed as green gold.

National Bamboo Mission (NBM)

NBM is a Centrally Sponsored Scheme that was started in year 2006-07. It was launched with an objective of Increasing the coverage area under bamboo in potential areas, with improved varieties to enhance the yields. The mission mainly focused on propagation and cultivation of bamboo, and put little efforts on processing the product. But the mission could not establish linkage between farmers (producers) and the industry. So, the restructured National Bamboo Mission was launched to increase growth of the bamboo sector.

Restructured National Bamboo Mission

The restructured NBM was launched in 2018-19 for a holistic development of sector. The main goal of the mission is to connect farmers to markets so as to enable farmer producers to get a ready market for their product. It also aims to increase supply of raw material to domestic industry. The Mission was launched under the Indian Forest Act in 2017. The act has also removed bamboo from the definition of trees. The main objective of the mission was to Increase area under bamboo plantation in both the non-forest Government land and private lands so as to enhance farm income.
