NASVI, FSSAI to jointly organise National Street Food Festival 

The National Association of Street Vendors of India (NASVI) and food regulator FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India) are jointly organising National Street Food Festival (NSFF) at Jawahar Lal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi during 25-29 December 2019. This year is the 11th edition of National Street Food Festival. Ever since its inception in 2009, this festival, has helped mainstream various street vending communities.

About National Street Food Festival (NSFF)

Theme of 2019’s festival‘Healthier Diets’. The idea is to focus various initiatives of FSSAI around healthy eating through gamification (in an interactive manner through games and quizzes). A footfall of around 75,000 people are expected to visit the festival.

During NSSF, Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan will launch ‘Network for Scientific Co-operation for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition’ (NetSCoFAN) on 26 December. It is a network of research and academic institutions working in the area of food and nutrition

Food Safety pavilion at festival will focus on demonstration of rapid food testing kits/devices.  Also, the FSSAI will be organising its second edition of ‘National Eat Right Mela’ to promote healthy foods. Through this mela, FSSAI seeks to give a unique and distinct identify to country’s local and street food. FSSAI will also be offering a platform to packaged food industry to showcase innovation in terms of newer areas such as healthier food variants, reformulation of food products and sustainable & enhanced packaging solutions.

About National Association of Street Vendors of India (NASVI)

It is a national federation of street vendor organizations comprising of a coalition of Community Based Organizations (CBOs), Trade Unions, Non-Government Organizations (NGOs) and professionals. NASVI works for protection of livelihood rights of thousands of street vendors across India. NASVI began as a Network in 1998 and was registered in 2003 under Societies Registration Act of 1860. The main objective behind establishing NASVI was to bring together the street vendor organizations in India
