Kalyani Rafael Advanced Systems bags $100 million missile kit order

Kalyani Rafael Advanced Systems Ltd (KRAS) has secured $100-million order from Israel’s Rafeal for manufacturing 1,000 Barak-8 Medium-Range Surface-to-Air Missile (MR-SAM) Missile kits for Indian Army and the Indian Air Force (IAF).

Key Highlights

KRAS plans to develop these systems at facility located near international airport in Hyderabad, Telangana. These systems would be produced over next 4 years and then be supplied to India’s state-run defence manufacturer Bharat Dynamics Ltd (BDL) for further integration.

Rafael’s collaboration with Indian defence industry has led to investment of over $250 million over the years as a part of Make-in-India initiative.

About KRAS

It is a 49:51 joint venture (JV) of Israel’s Rafael Advanced Systems (49%) and India’s Kalyani Strategic Systems Ltd. (51%).

Unique: It is 1st private missile production facility in India. It produces missiles, interceptors, besides deploying defence systems and providing long-term maintenance of missiles and equipment. It is committed to operational readiness of Indian Army and Indian Air Force (IAF).

Site Expansion: Kalyani group plans to set up 2nd manufacturing facility on a 100-acre site in Telangana to enhance its production capability, primarily to serve India and also to operate as an export facility for friendly neighbouring countries.

KRAS unit: It is an advanced production facility that offers engineering services as well as extended life-cycle support for systems that are supplied to Indian defence forces.

KRAS Facility: near Hyderabad was set up in August 2017. It has now bagged $100-million order and has been exporting defence systems and achieved business of $15 million in 2018. It expects to clock nearly $30 million by 2019.
