Mount Merapi

In Indonesia, which is located in the Pacific “Ring of Fire”, Mount Merapi erupted recently. It is one among many active volcanoes in the southeast Asian nation. The volcano is located near Indonesia’s cultural capital Yogyakarta. Some of the ashes from this volcano travelled as far as 3 km. The last eruption from this mountain took place in 2010, leading to deaths of more than 3,000 people and evacuation of around 280,000 residents in surrounding areas.
