Mohammed Allawi appointed the PM of Iraq amidst Tishreen Revolution in the country

On February 01, 2020, one of the former communications ministers of Iraq, Mohammed Allawi was appointed the Prime Minister of the country by the President of Iraq, Barham Salih.

Allawi has been appointed the Prime Minister of the Country amidst long protests that has so far killed 600 in the country.

2019 Iraqi protests-The Tishreen Revolution

The 2019 Iraqi protests has been named Tishreen Revolution or October Revolution or Iraqi Intifada. It was started in October 2019 in the social media by civil activists. IT then spread to northern and southern provinces of the country. The protests was against the 16 years of corruption in the country. It also aimed to stop the Iranian intervention in Iraq.

Mohammed Allawi

Allawi served as the communication minister between 2006-07 and 2010-12. During both his terms he resigned due to political reasons. He was famous for his strict actions against bribery. He brought out the controversial rule of imposing 30% of contract signed as fine, if the company’s bribing charges were proved. Also, the company would be blacklisted.

It is to be noted that Iraq has been ranked the most corrupt governments in the world for 16 consecutive years.
