Mission Integrated Bio-refineries

Dr. Jitendra Singh Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Science & Technology; Earth Sciences; PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, has launched a clean energy initiative named Mission Integrated Bio-refineries.

Overview:

  • The mission has been launched keeping in mind India’s commitment to a low-carbon future that can be achieved through “Mission Innovation” and centred on technological advancement.
  • Also, through the usage of zero waste bio-refinery for the cost-effective production of biofuels that are sustainable and bio-based materials and chemicals, using interventions that are biotechnological low-carbon future can be achieved.

About Mission Integrated Bio-refineries

This mission will be uniting a result-oriented and dynamic partnership of international organizations, countries, academic institutions, the corporate sector, and civil society so that the innovation for chemicals, renewable fuels, and materials for achieving a low-carbon future can be accelerated. This mission will be looking to facilitate green energy in the country.

Aim of the mission

This mission has been launched with the aim of enhancing and accelerating clean energy solutions across the country through various Public -Private Alliances.

Soft launch of Mission Integrated Bio-refineries

Dr. Jitendra Singh had made a soft launch at the COP 26 held in November 2021 at the event named Mission Innovation Annual Gathering. This event was held with the aim of boosting the global sector in the field of emerging clean energy solutions through several collaborative actions.

About National Funding Opportunity on Sustainable Aviation Fuels

The National Funding Opportunity on Sustainable Aviation Fuels to support and conduct Research, Development & Demonstration (RD&D) with the aim of fostering innovation in bio-technology for low carbon pathways so that cleaner biofuels can be made available for aviation applications was also announced.

About Hydrogen Valley Platform

The funding opportunity for the Hydrogen Valley Platform was also announced. It is a global initiative to optimize the supply and demand of hydrogen by onsite utilization and generation, effective utilization of renewable resources, and the water excess areas having a geographical identity. Also, by 2030 the Department of Science and Technology (DST) will be delivering three clean hydrogen valleys in India.

About Material Acceleration Platforms

Three Material Acceleration Platforms (MAP) have also been launched. These have been set up by the DST. The three platforms are Integrated Clean Energy Material Acceleration Platform on Materials, Integrated Clean Energy Material Acceleration Platform on Storage, and Integrated Clean Energy Material Acceleration Platform on Bioenergy and Hydrogen. The total cost of setting up these platforms is USD 6 Million. These platforms will help in boosting the emerging capabilities in artificial intelligence (AI), next-generation computing, machine learning, and robotics.
