MoS for Education participates in G20 Research Ministers’ meeting

Minister of State for Education, Subhas Sarkar, participated in G20 Research Ministers’ meeting on August 6, 2021.

Highlights

  • Meeting was hosted in  by Italy.
  • G20 Education Ministers of the grouping exchanged their views on enhancing research collaborations and sharing digital space among G20 Countries.
  • Collaborations would be enhanced to bring about a strong, sustainable, resilient and inclusive recovery.

India at G20 meet

  • Subhas Sarkar reiterated India’s commitment to promote research and to skill, reskill & upskill the youth. He also reiterated his commitment of collaborating with other G-20 countries in order to achieve this objective.
  • According to him, India attaches importance to work with G20 partners and find evidence-based solutions for common problems.
  • He highlighted the significance of National Education Policy, 2020 that seeks to strengthen research ecosystem of India by establishing a National Research Foundation.
  • India also emphasizes leveraging relevant technologies for maximum gain in education sector.
  • He also confirmed support of the Government of India to collective efforts of G-20 countries in building a resilient education system.

About G20

G20 is an informal group of 19 countries and the European Union. It also comprises of representatives of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank. The grouping comprises of a mix of world’s largest advanced and emerging economies that represent about two-thirds of world’s population. G20 also represents 85% of global gross domestic product, 75% of global trade and 80% of global investment.
