Marine spatial planning

Marine spatial planning is a type of planning for sustainable use of marine resources. It is similar to land use planning and makes use of maps to enable informed decision-making. The National Centre for Coastal Research under the earth sciences ministry is to implement the Marine spatial planning project in Lakshadweep and Puducherry on a pilot basis. The project would help develop multiple economic sectors in a societally beneficial manner. The World Bank and UNEP have expressed interest in supporting the project.
