Louvre

The Louvre is the world’s largest museum located in Paris, France. It is a historical monument housing the famed Mona Lisa painting. This museum is located in the Louvre Palace, which was built in the late 12th century and the beginning of 13th century during the reign of Philip II. It was opened on 10 August 1793, displaying 537 paintings.

Laurence des Cars recently became the first woman to head this renowned museum since it was established more than two centuries ago. Des Cars was known for promoting social issues through art. She even campaigned for the restitution of works stolen by Nazis during the Second World War.
