Lala Lajpat Rai’s birth anniversary is observed on January 28. Born in 1865 at a village called Dhudike in Punjab, he became one of the key players in India’s struggle for independence from the British colonialism. He led a silent protest march against the Simon Commission in 1928, authored several books and established Punjab National Bank and Laxmi Insurance Company in 1894.
