Sally Ride: First American woman astronaut passed away

imageSally Ride (61), the first US woman to travel into space passed away. In June 1983, at the age of 32, she blasted off in the US space shuttle Challenger. Ride graduated from Stanford University with master’s and doctorate degrees in physics. She became an astronaut in 1978.

  • The First woman to travel into in space was Soviet cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova in June 1963.
