Amitabha Bagchi’s ‘Half the Night is Gone’ wins DSC Prize 2019

Indian author Amitabha Bagchi has won the DSC Prize for South Asian Literature 2019 for his novel ‘Half the Night is Gone’.
The jury headed by Harish Trivedi, declared Amitabha as the winner on Monday, December 16th during the concluding day of the Nepal Literature Festival in Pokhara, and was awarded by the Nepalese Foreign Minister, Pradeep Gyawali and the co-founder of DSC Prize Surina Nawala.
The novel is based on three parallel stories, interrogating the relationships between the men and the women, masters and servants, fathers and sons and the nation and the individuals.
DSC Prize for South Asian Literature is an international literary prize for an original full-length novel written in the English language or translated into English. First awarded in 2011, winners receive USD 25,000. Four Indians have been among the recipients of the award in previous years, Jeet Thayil in 2013, Cyrus Mistry in 2014, Jhumpa Lahiri in 2015 and Anuradha Roy in 2016.
