Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code

The Centre unveiled Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code, a draft regulation aimed at controlling Big Tech firms. This comes as Twitter had earlier ignored Indian government’s orders to remove contents related to recent farmers’ protests. These draft rules will be legally enforceable. It requires tech firms to remove contentious contents within 36 hours after the government/legal order. These firms must also cooperate with government investigations within 72 hours of a request.
