MP gets its 1st international flight with Air India’s Indore-Dubai service

Indore, the commercial capital of Madhya Pradesh recently made it to international aviation map with national carrier Air India launching its flight service to Dubai from MP Airport. Air India Flight AI903 took wings from Indore’s Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar International Airport with 150 passengers on. This was the 1st international commercial flight from Madhya Pradesh.

Key Highlights

The non-stop flight fulfilled long-standing desire from travel fraternity and tourists for direct connectivity to Gulf region. This flight will also improve Dubai’s business relationship with Indore.

Air India is operating 162-seater A-320 Neo aircraft on Indore-Dubai route.

It will fly directly to Dubai on every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday while return flight from Dubai will be on Tuesday, Friday and Sunday.

Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar International Airport:

It is named after Maharani Ahilya Bai Holkar of Indore (1725–1795), who belonged to Holkar dynasty of Maratha Empire.

It is considered as busiest airport in Central India.

It has been bestowed Worlds Standardization Certification by United Kingdom (UK).

Background

On 29 May 2019 Central Government designated Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar Airport, Indore of Madhya Pradesh State as an international airport. This was in pursuance of sub-rule (b) of rule 3 of Passport (Entry into India) Rules, 1950, that made the Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar Airport as an authorized Immigration Check Post for entry into/exit from India with valid documents for all classes of passengers.

An international airport has customs and border control facilities enabling passengers to travel between two countries.
