IAU

The International Astronomical Union (IAU) is an international entity that promotes and safeguards the science of astronomical research, communication, education and development. It was founded in 1919. Its members are a group of professional astronomers who are actively involved in professional research, education and outreach in astronomy.

The IAU Working Group for Planetary System Nomenclature has recently approved eight Chinese names for lunar features around the landing site of Chang’e-5. These include Mons Hua, Mons Heng, Pei Xiu, Shen Kuo, Liu Hui, Song Yingxing, Statio Tianchuan, and Xu Guanqui. China has started naming geographical entities on the Moon’s surface from 2010.
