Gaganyan training begins in Russia: VSSC Chairman at Citizen Familiarization Program

The Indian Space flight mission Gaganyaan will orbit the Earth for seven days and is scheduled in December 2021. Four Indian Air Force Pilots are to participate in the mission. The training for the pilots to enter space has commenced in Russia.

The mission is undertaken in the low earth orbit at 300 – 400 km from the earth. It would comprise an effective crew escape system and ejection provisions for the pilots in case of rocket explosion.

Russia’s contribution in the mission

Russia will offer semi cryogenic rocket engine technology to India under India’s Make – in – India Program. Later the rocket engines will be made in India

Apart from this India is planning to set a NaviC station in Russia and Russia will also be allowed to set up a NaviC station base in Bengalaru, India. The negotiations are on and the deal is yet to be signed.

The announcement about the training was made at the inaugural function of “Citizen Familiarization Program” by the VSSC – Vikram Sarabhai Space Center Director S Somnath

Citizen Familiarization Program

The Program was conducted during the celebrations of World Space Week 2019. The main purpose of the program is to inform the citizens of the country for what purpose their tax money is being utilized in ISRO. ISRO had invited senior citizens of the country and was attended by more than 400 senior citizens. ISRO also sought their advises and suggestions

The ISRO research and programmed have contributed greatly towards economic development of the country. It has helped to improve digital communication, defence communication, mapping, accurate weather forecast, agricultural production, etc
