Har Ghar Dastak 2.0 Campaign

On 1st June 2022, the Har Ghar Dastak 2.0 campaign began across the nation to ensure that all eligible beneficiaries receive complete Covid-19 vaccination. This campaign gives special focus on the vaccination of those aged between 12 to 14 and precaution doses for those above the age of 60. This is a two-month-long door-to-door campaign that will go on from 1st June to 31st July 2022.

When was the first Har Ghar Dastak campaign conducted?

In November 2021, the first Har Ghar Dastak campaign was conducted. So far, across the nation, 193.6 crore doses of vaccines have been administered. Around 96.3 percent of those aged 15 years and above have received at least one vaccination dose and 86.3 percent have received both doses.

Why was the Har Ghar Dastak campaign 2.0 launched?

The Union Health Ministry raised concerns about the slow pace of Covid vaccination. Hence, on 20th May the ministry advised all Union Territories and States to hold a two-month-long Har Ghar Dastak 2.0 campaign with detailed plans for all blocks, districts, and villages. The aim of this campaign is to vaccinate all the eligible population groups across the country for the first, second, and precaution doses via door-to-door campaigns. This campaign will be focusing on:

  • old age homes
  • colleges
  • schools
  • out-of-school children (for coverage of children between 12 to 18 years of age)
  • brick kilns
  • prisons, etc.

The states have been asked by the ministry to make micro-plans to widen the coverage of the campaign.

Which organization is supporting the Health Ministry in this campaign?

This Health Ministry is being supported by UNICEF in this campaign.  The Ministry had pointed out that the sub-optimal coverage of persons with precautionary doses for those aged 60 years and above, along with the slow coverage speed for those aged between 12 to 14 years of age is of huge concern.  Hence, this second round of the campaign will be focusing on children aged between 12 to 18 years. The campaign will also include a school-based campaign which includes private, government, and informal schools such as Day Care Schools, Madrasas, etc. A round of this campaign will also be held for those whose schools are closed for summer vacations.
