Digital India Awards 2022

The Digital India Awards, instituted by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), recognize and honor innovative digital solutions and exemplary initiatives by various government entities in the realm of digital governance. The awards aim to promote universal accessibility to digital resources, anytime anywhere access, and collaboration in participative governance and digital literacy, leading to enhanced ease of living.

This year, the awards were given out in several categories, with Platinum, Gold, and Silver awards being given to the winning teams. The winners in each category are as follows:

Digital Empowerment of Citizens

  • Platinum: e-NAM, the flagship initiative of the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare
  • Gold: Transport Mission Mode Project (eTransport)
  • Silver: Judgment Search Portal

Digital Initiatives at Grassroots Level

  • Platinum: e-Vivechna App (MP)

What is e-NAM?

e-NAM is a digital platform that integrates 1,260 APMC (Agricultural Produce Market Committee) mandis across 22 states and 3 UTs (Union Territories) to facilitate online trading of 203 agriculture and horticulture commodities. The platform aims to enable farmers to realize better remunerative prices for their produce. e-NAM is catalysing the digital transformation of mandi operations and e-trading of agricultural commodities.

As of December 31, 2022, more than 1.74 crore farmers and 2.39 lakh traders have been registered on the e-NAM portal. A total trade consisting of 69 million metric tonnes of worth Rs 2.42 lakh crore has been recorded on the e-NAM platform, according to the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.

Benefits of e-NAM

e-NAM provides various benefits and facilities to farmers and other stakeholders such as providing access to prevailing commodity prices on a mobile app, GPS-based feature capturing e-NAM mandis and mandi prices within a 100 km radius along with route maps, advance lot registration, SMS alerts on final bid prices of the lot and payment receipts, real-time competitive price bidding through e-NAM, weighment integration for accurate weight, bidding progress available on mobile, facilitates direct trade between farmers and traders, direct payment to farmers’ bank accounts, reduction in transaction costs for buyers and sellers, FPO (Farmer Producer Organization) trading module to facilitate FPOs to e-trade, and more.
