World Tuberculosis Day
March 24th is observed as the World Tuberculosis Day across the world to create public awareness about the dangers of the disease and the need to eliminate it.
Tuberculosis
Tuberculosis is one of the deadliest infectious diseases. It is caused by a bacterium called Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Though it predominantly affects the respiratory system, it can also affect the entire body of the patient. It is an air-borne disease that kills about 4,000 people every day across the world.
About World Tuberculosis Day
March 24th is observed as the World Tuberculosis Day to commemorate the discovery of the causative bacterium by Robert Koch in 1882. The discovery had paved way for diagnosing and curing the disease. The 2020 edition of the international day was observed on the theme of ‘It’s Time’.

The Find. Treat. All. #EndTB is a joint initiative of the World Health Organisation, Stop TB Partnership and the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. It was launched to ‘translate commitment into action’. It aims at diagnosing, reporting and treating 40 million people with the disease.
