The delegation is also scheduled to visit the Eastern Theatre command of the People’s Liberation Army situated in Nanjing. Eastern Theatre command is one of the five zones of People’s liberation Army.

People’s Liberation Army is the world’s largest standing military.

The aim of the visit is to engage China on subjects of mutual concern and shared interest including terrorism, humanitarian assistance and peacekeeping training. The visit also coincides with ‘Hand-in-Hand’ joint military exercise between the two armies which is underway in Pune.

Though India’s northern borders continue to remain calm at large, issues pertaining to the Line of Actual Control still continues to exist between India and China. India has undertaken a lot of steps to beef up security along its borders with China like raising of a mountain brigade, deployment of modern artillery and tanks and creating greater airfield infrastructure among others.
