Paes-Stepanek clinch US Open men’s doubles title
The pair of India’s Leander Paes and Czech’s Radek Stepanek clinched US Open men’s doubles title as they vanquished Alexander Peya and Bruno Soares in the final held in New York. For Paes, it is his eighth men’s doubles Grand Slam title. Leander Paes won his eighth men’s doubles Grand Slam title, and overall this was his 14th.

India's K. Jennitha Anto wins IPCA World Women's Chess Championship
India’s K Jennitha Anto won the 13th IPCA World Women’s Individual Chess Championship title organised by the Interntional Physically Disabled Chess Association, at Velke Losiny in the Czech Republic. She bagged the Woman International Master title. The WIM title would allow her direct entry in many of the National events for women except the premier. ..

Czech elects Milos Zeman as its President
Milos Zeman has won presidential poll of Czech Republic by his defeating opponent Foreign Minister Karel Schwarzenberg. Mr Zeman will replace current president Vaclav Klaus, who completes his term in March,2013 after his 10 years regime. Mr. Zeman is the supporter of further integration of the European Union.

Czech Republic beat Spain in Davis Cup 2012 finals
The Czech Republic defeated Spain 3-2 in the 2012 Davis Cup Finals. This is the country’s second Davis Cup title and first since 1980, when it was Czechoslovakia. The Czech Republic victory in this 100th edition of the Davis Cup was the first as an independent nation.
