Narcoterrorism

USA has charged Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and other senior Venezuelan officials with narcoterrorism, corruption, drug trafficking and money laundering.

About Narcoterrorism

The term narcoterrorism refers to the use of violence, intimidation and other kinds of terror attacks to influence the policies of a government with regards to drug trafficking. The term was coined in 1983 by the Peruvian President to refer to the terror attacks against the country’s anti-narcotic police.

US- Venezuela Conflict

USA has long accused the Venezuelan President, Nicolas Maduro of corruption and it backs the self-declared Interim President, Juan Guaido of Venezuela. US has been launching a series of pressure campaigns on the Venezuelan government, including oil sanctions. Recently, USA announced a reward of 15 million USD for information leading to the arrest of Maduro. It has also indicted other senior officials of the Venezuelan government including its Supreme Court’s Chief Justice and the Defence Minister.

FARC

The US government also accused Venezuela of providing safe haven to the FARC (Revolutionary Armed Forces of Columbia- People’s Army)- a Columbian guerrilla force known to use terrorism, kidnapping, ransom, extortion, etc. It is noted for trafficking drugs like cocaine.
