Dr K S Chugh, father of nephrology in India passes away

Dr Kirpal Singh Chugh (85), the father of nephrology in India, has passed away in Chandigarh on September 17, 2017. Dr Chugh was emeritus professor and former head of department of nephrology at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh.
He was a recipient of several national and international awards, including the Padma Shri. Presently, he was working with Fortis Hospital at Mohali. Dr Chugh had 413 papers, including 38 chapters, published in national and international journals and books. The International Society of Nephrology had acknowledged Dr Chugh’s pioneering work and contributions and had included him amongst 50 legends in nephrology.
