C-DAC’s Technology Transfers

C-DAC, a research and development organization under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), has recently transferred its indigenous technology of Power Quality Solution and Railways VCU solutions to industry partners.

Technology Details

The Static Synchronous Compensator (STATCOM) technology was developed with adherence to the PQ standard-IEEE519 & IEEE1459. The STATCOM technology is engineered to minimize voltage fluctuation and instability that are caused when renewable energy sources are integrated to the power grid. As the demand for renewable energy sources like wind and solar power continues to rise, the significance of this technology has increased.

The VCU technology, based on the standard IEC-61375, was developed to upgrade the existing C-DAC-VCU to bring it at par with contemporary technology. The technology was handed over to CLW Chittaranjan to tackle the day-to-day and long-term maintenance requirements of the locomotive fleet.

The Loco Simulation Controller was developed to test the VCU and its application software in locomotive and enhance debugging. The aim of developing the Rolling Stack Software was to enhance the dependability of loco operation in case of processor board malfunctions. This rolling stock application controls the locomotive function and is distributed among the four processor boards present in the VCU set. Lastly, the Off-Loco VCU Test Kit was developed to verify the basic functions of the sub-system PCBs used in the C-DAC developed VCU for 3 phase electric locos.
