CBI

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is an investigating agency functioning under the jurisdiction of the Union Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions. It was initially set up in 1965 to probe bribery and government corruption. Its scope was later expanded to include investigation of all breaches of central laws, multi-state organised crimes, multi-agency and international crimes.

IPS officer Subodh Kumar Jaiswal was recently appointed as the director of the CBI. Belonging to the Maharashtra cadre, he earlier served as the chief of the CISF. Until this appointment, the Bureau was working without a regular chief for the past 3 months after the former director completed his two-year tenure.
