MASCRADE 2019 organised by FICCI in Delhi

‘MASCRADE 2019’- Movement Against Smuggling and Counterfeit Trade scheduled’, an annual flagship FICCI (Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry) event was held from 26-27 September 2019 in New Delhi. This year was the sixth edition of MASCRADE event which was organised by FICCI CASCADE (Committee Against Smuggling and Counterfeiting Activities Destroying the Economy).

The theme for MASCRADE 2019 is ‘Containing Counterfeiting, Smuggling and Piracy: A Winning Strategy’.

Key Highlights of MASCRADE 2019

Background: Since its inception, the MASCRADE initiative has seen participation from various international bodies offering a platform for experts to come together and find a solution to problem of smuggling, counterfeiting and piracy of goods that impacts almost every country and affects almost every brand owner around globe.

The event, strive towards bring in best minds from policy making, law, enforcement agencies, media, brand protection, industry, among others to find a holistic and permanent solution to problem of counterfeiting and smuggling. This is because if this is left unchecked it can have a disastrous impact on economies globally.

During the event FICCI CASCADE felicitated Best Performing Officers who have worked exceptionally in apprehending, combating and administrating preventive mechanisms with regards to illicit trading activities from various law enforcement departments of government.

Moreover, FICCI CASCADE released detailed report titled – ‘Impact of Smuggling on Indian Economy and Employment during “MASCRADE 2019” event.

Report Findings

The report was a compilation of facts and figures on smuggling and adopted a research approach and methodology that estimates the loss of employment and revenue in 5 key industries namely- Readymade Garment, Textiles, Tobacco Products (Cigarettes), Capital Goods (Machinery and Parts) and Consumer (Electronics) Durables.

The report further highlighted the key challenges posed by smuggling as well as the possible solutions needed to make compliance and processes more robust.
