India has appointed senior IFS officer S Jaishankar as its new Ambassador to China. he will be succeeding Nirupama Rao who has been appointed as the next foreign secretary.

West Bengal Power Secretary Sunil Mitra has been appointed Disinvestment Secretary at the Centre. He is IAS officer of the 1975 batch and will replace Rahul Khullar, who has moved from the Disinvestment Department to take charge as Commerce Secretary.

July 20, 2009: Bhupinder Singh appointed as coach to Punjab Cricket Association
A Bhupinder Singh, the former Indian cricketer and national selector, has been appointed by the Punjab Cricket Association as coach for the 2009-10 season. Bhupinder represented India in two ODIs in 1994 and was Punjab captain from 1989-1991.

July 16, 2009: S. Vishvanathan appointed as Managing Director & CEO of SBI Capital Markets
S. Vishvanathan has assumed charge as Managing Director & CEO of SBI Capital Markets Ltd., the investment banking subsidiary of State Bank of India (SBI). Mr. Vishvanathan has overall charge of the company’s business operations, strategy, and marketing; including activities supported by company’s principal global offices.
Prior to this appointment he was the Chief General Manager of SBI’s North Eastern operations. Mr. Vishvanathan’s association with SBI goes way back to 1976 when he had joined the State Bank of India as a Probationary Officer. Since then he has served the bank in several important capacities which includes an assignment in bank’s New York branch.
