National Pollution Control Day 2019

National pollution control day is observed on 2nd December every year in India in the memory of the people who lost their lives in 1984 Bhopal gas calamity. The day is observed on the objectives to make industries and people aware of the importance of pollution control acts, to prevent pollution caused by human negligence or produced by the industrial processes, and for spreading awareness on controlling and managing industrial disasters.

To control pollution, the government has taken a number of measures since 1974. The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) was established in the year 1974 under the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act 1974.

CPCB has launched the ‘Sameer app’ which provides hourly updates on the National Air Quality Index(AQI). Also in 2016, the Environment Pollution Control Authority (EPCA) has launched a mobile app ‘Hawa Badlo’ in which citizens participate directly by reporting incidences of air pollution such as garbage and leaf burning, etc.
