Safety of explosives at warehouses in India being checked

The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs has directed the field offices to verify within 48 hours that all explosive materials lying in Customs warehouses and ports are compliant with the safety standards as required and also that they should not pose any kind of danger to the lives of common people. This step comes on the backdrop of the blast that happened in Lebanon recently.

Beirut Blast Case

A huge explosion shook the capital city of Lebanon on August 4 and left around 135 people dead and 5000 people injured. The blast was so severe that it damaged a part of the whole city. The reason for this blast was ascertained as the 2000 metric tonnes of aluminium nitrate stored in a warehouse in the Beirut Port.

It is the nodal body in India responsible for administering the GST regime in the country. It is now one of the oldest government departments in the country as it was first set up in 1855 by the British. It works under the administrative control of the Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance, Government of India.
