Chile agree to hold referendum on new Constitution

On 15 Nov, Chilean political parties agreed to hold a referendum next April to replace the country’s dictatorship-era constitution, bowing to demands of protesters who want the country’s social and economic model overhauled.  The referendum will ask Voters will be asked whether they approve the idea of a new constitution and whether current lawmakers should serve on the commission that would redraft the document. Chile witnessed a violent civil unrest nearly a month recently.  Critiques argued that existing Magna Carta in Chile adopted during Gen. Augusto Pinochet’s 1973-1990 military dictatorship, lacks legitimacy.
