ATP Finals: Dominic Thiem wins over Rafael Nadal

On November 17, 2020, Dominic Theim of Austria won Rafael Nadal and has become the first player to qualify to semi-finals of 2020 ATP. Nadal will now have to beat Tsitsipas to reach the semi-finals. ATP is Association of Tennis Professionals.

Rafael Nada is a Spanish tennis player. He has been ranked number two in the ATP rankings. Rafael Nadal in October 2020, equalled record of Roger Federer by winning 20 Grand Slams. Novak Djokovic, a Serbian Tennis player is seen as the major rival to Rafael Nadal.

One of the Big Four in Tennis

Rafael Nadal is often addressed as one of the big four in tennis. Rafael Nada, Roger Federer, Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic were often referred to as the Big Four in tennis until 2017.

Dominic Thiem

He is ranked number 3 in the ATP ranking. He was the first Austrian to win US Open. He has so far won one Grand Slam. Thiem has won 17 ATP titles.

Novak Djokovic

He is ranked number 1 in the ATP ranking. He has so far won 81 ATP titles.

Association of Tennis Professionals

It is the governing body of the men’s professional tennis circuits. It was established in 1972. The headquarters of ATP is located in London. The ATP tour comprises of ATP 500, ATP Masters 1000 and ATP 250.

ATP Rankings

The ATP rankings are commonly known as the world rankings. The Association of Tennis Professionals rank the men tennis players. The tournaments that fall under Grand Slam, ATP and International Tennis Federation alone are considered to rank the players.

WTA Rankings

The Women Tennis Association (WTA) ranks the women tennis players. The WTA organises women tennis tournaments. The headquarters of WTA is located in St Petersburg. The European headquarters of WTA is located in London and its Asia-Pacific headquarters is located in Beijing, China.
