Aspergillosis

Aspergillus is a type of fungal infection caused by Aspergillus. It mostly affects those people who have compromised immune system or those suffering from lung diseases. This fungal infection causes allergic reactions and infections in lungs and other organs. There are five types of aspergillosis – allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA), allergic Aspergillus sinusitis, aspergilloma, chronic pulmonary aspergillosis and invasive aspergillosis.

Some COVID-19 patients are currently experiencing chronic pulmonary aspergillosis. Its symptoms include weight loss, fatigue, cough, bloody coughs and shortness of breath. While anti-fungal medications like Itraconazole help treat these patients, severe cases of aspergillosis would require surgical interventions.
