Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated the Goa-based All India Institute of Ayurveda. He also addressed the 9th World Ayurveda Congress (WAC) and Arogya Expo.

About the All India Institute of Ayurveda

  • All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) is a tertiary care facility situated in New Delhi.
  • It was set up by the Central Government along the lines of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).
  • It was established as an apex institute to bring synergy between Ayurveda and modern diagnostic tools and technology.
  • If offers care in 36 areas of specialization like panchakarma, food, lifestyle, yoga, and Ayurveda, as well as diagnostic support using cutting-edge diagnostic equipment, like an ICU.
  • Since its inauguration in 2017, it had provided services to as many as 15 lakh patients.

About the satellite centre of AIIA in Goa

The recently inaugurated satellite centre of the AIIA is a 250-bedded facility was established in Goa to promote Ayurveda and Naturopathy. It is expected to expand the opportunities in ayurvedic education and medical tourism in the coastal state. This facility, with a 50-acre campus, has been modelled in a way that it offers preventive, diagnostic and tertiary health practices. It also offers academic courses at the undergraduate level, including 12 UG courses that are already being provided by the Delhi branch. The Goa campus includes new courses – Sharir Rachna and Agada Tantra.

The Goa campus has an academic block, hostel, convenience and dietary centres, and a sports facility. It will also have Panchakarma cottages with playgrounds and herbal garden for the visiting patients.

About World Ayurveda Congress (WAC)

The World Ayurveda Congress (WAC) is a global platform established by the World Ayurveda Foundation to promote the benefits of Ayurveda. The inaugural edition of the congress was held in 2002 in Kochi as an outreach programme aimed at promoting awareness and opportunities in the practice, science and trade of Ayurveda. The subsequent editions were held in at Pune, Jaipur, Bangalore, Bhopal, Delhi, Kolkata and Ahmedabad. The 9th edition, which was held in Goa, witnessed the attendance of representatives from more than 50 countries. The focal theme for the event is “Ayurveda for One Health”. Its aim is to act as a collaborative, multi-sectoral, and transdisciplinary forum working at the local, regional, national, and global levels to address the health issues spanning the entire spectrum of humans-animals-plants and their shared environment.
