‘Airport as Venue for Skilled Artisans of the Region’ (AVSAR) Scheme

The ‘Airport as Venue for Skilled Artisans of the Region’ (AVSAR) scheme has been launched by the Airport Authority of India (AAI) with the aim of encouraging the talent of craftsmen, women, and artisans and providing them with proper opportunities.

Overview:

Under this scheme, the opportunity will be provided to help the impoverished to earn so that they can mobilize their households for self-dependence, and self-reliance.
Under this initiative space will be allocated to Self Help Groups (SHGs) at the airports for the purpose of showcasing or selling the self-made products of their specific region.
At each AAI-operated airport, an area of 100-200 square feet has been earmarked for the SHGs.
On a turn-on-turn basis, this area will be provided to the SHGs for a duration of 15 days.

Commissioned Outlets

A few outlets at AAI-operated airports at Agartala, Chennai, Kushinagar, Dehradun, Amritsar, and Udaipur have been commissioned wherein the SHGs that are operated by local women, are marketing and showcasing their local homemade products.

The objective of this initiative

This initiative will strengthen the SHGs by providing them with visibility and will prepare them to market and promote their products to a wider spectrum by reaching out to a larger population from the country as well outside the country.

What products are being showcased?

The products like Packaged Papad, Puffed Rice, Bamboo-based Ladies Bag/ Lamp Sets/Bottle, Pickles, traditional craft, local artefacts, embroidery, natural dyes, and indigenous weaves with contemporary design are being showcased and marketed to the travellers.
