YUVIKA- YUva VIgyani KAryakram

The Young Scientist Program, also known as YUVIKA (Yuva VIgyani KAryakram), is an annual space education and training programme sponsored by ISRO and funded by India’s Department of Space.

Overview:

  • The programme was started by the Indian government in order to inspire early interest in space technologies among the youth.
  • ISRO’s ex-chief K. Sivan announced the programme on January 18, 2019, and it was launched four months later on May 17.
  • The programme was announced through ISRO’s Student Outreach Programme.
  • The State Governments and education departments were urged by K. Sivan to work together to make the programme a success.
  • Scientists are also invited to give talks and facility visits are also conducted under this programme. Talk sessions for discussions with professionals in the field of space technology are also conducted.

Aim of the Programme

The aim of this program is to develop and nurture an interest in space science in young minds.

Selection Criteria

The criteria for selection are academic achievement and extracurricular activities. Participants are chosen based on a number of factors, including grades in Class 8 and participation in science fairs organised by the school, district, state, or Central government authority in the previous three years.

YUVIKA 2022

From May 16 to May 28, the YUVIKA-2022 residential programme will be held. Talks, experience sharing by famous scientists, experimental demonstrations, facility and lab visits, special sessions for expert discussions, practical and feedback sessions will be organized.

U R Rao Satellite Centre (URSC), Bengaluru; Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), Thiruvananthapuram; National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC), Hyderabad; Space Application Centre (SAC), Ahmedabad; and North-East Space Application Centre (NE-SAC), Shillong are the five ISRO centres where the programme will be held.
