Yarlung Zangbo

Yarlung Zangbo is the Tibetan name of the Brahmaputra River. China’s draft five year plan for the period 2021 to 2025 has approved the construction of hydropower bases on the lower reaches of the river for the first time. Lower reaches of Yarlung Zangbo refers to the part of the river that flows in Tibet before entering Indian territory. This project has the potential to overtake the Three Gorges Dam of China as the world’s biggest hydropower project.
