The World Heritage Week is observed to promote the conservation of culture and heritage. In 2021, the World Heritage Week was celebrated between November 19 and November 25. The week – long celebration aims to create awareness about traditions and culture. The World Heritage Week is celebrated by UNESCO and several other international organisations. In India. The World Heritage Week is celebrated by the Archaeological Survey of India.

How did India celebrate the World Heritage Week?

The Government of India celebrated the World Heritage Week by promoting the heritage sites in the country. Rule 6 of the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Rules, 1959 says about the fees collected at the entrance of the archaeological sites. In accordance to this rule, the Archaeological Survey of India directed that all the entry tickets to the ancient monuments and archaeological sites are free.

What is the importance of World Heritage Week?

There are 3,691 monuments that are protected by the Archaeological Survey of India. Uttar Pradesh has the highest numbers. Of these around 40 are listed under the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. India has the sixth largest number of heritage sites in the world. It is essential to promote the conservation of these sites. Thus, it is important for India to celebrate the World Heritage Week.
