Who was Abdul Qavi Desnavi?

Abdul Qavi Desnavi was an eminent Writer, Critic, Bibliographist, Linguist & Scholar of Urdu language. He was born on November 1, 1930 in village Desna of block Asthawan in Nalanda district of Bihar. He belonged to the family of Great Muslim scholar Syed Sulaiman Nadvi, who was one of the eminent historian and the greatest biographers of the Islamic prophet Muhammad, during his times. He was the second son of late Prof. S.M. Saeed Raza, who was Professor of Urdu, Arabic & Persian languages in St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai.

Prof. Abdul Qavi Desnavi wrote more than 50 books in Urdu Literature and translated his books in other Indian languages. He had contributed some important works on Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, Mirza Ghalib and Allama Muhammad Iqbal. His magnum opus is the “Hayat-e-Abul Kalam Azad” which is a book on Maulana Abul Kalam Azad. Some of his other works include Bombay Se Bhopal Tak, Mein Urdu Hoon, Urdu Shayri Ki Gyarah Avazein, Fakhr Nama, Mehdi Hasan Afadi etc.
Abdul Qavi Desnavi died in July, 2011.
